Maggie O'Brian believes dance is a natural healing medicine and the medicine is in YOU. For centuries throughout history, in many cultures around the world, human beings dance in community. Through ceremony, celebration, prayer, and meditation, the different cultures hold ritual dance. Today in our modern society, by categorizing ourselves as dancers or non-dancers and limited offerings of communal dance, we are missing out on this gift of natural healing.
With Dance Medicine, Maggie intends to hold a unconditional loving space where you are free to express yourself through energy and movement. Where you can practice in community, the non-judgement and appreciation of Self, Others and Life. With a playlist of multi-cultural music, and suggestion of positive visualization that stimulates creativity and imagination, you can allow your body to move to music with instinctual, intuitive action, and help to regain some balance and harmony in the Body/Mind/Spirit/Soul.
We will start off the circular wave of movement with a grounding exercise and warm up, build momentum as we shimmy, shake, sway and soar, all with individual exertion and unique expression. As everyday, every-body feels differently, we allow space to explore this energy, following the flow and rhythms of our own cycle. Then slowing, cooling down, and closing with a relaxation and stillness exercise. Prepare to dance barefoot or in socks, please bring water to hydrate and wear comfortable clothes and layers.
